Interim Head of Strategic Procurement (m/f) – Energy and environmental technology
Build strategic sourcing around the suppliers tomorrow’s projects will need.
The assignment and starting situation
An energy and environmental technology company in the Rhine-Main region is developing strategic procurement for technical project requirements. The assignment calls for a leader who connects categories, international supply markets and project priorities. You help the team turn individual sourcing events into a coordinated agenda, considering commercial opportunities alongside capacity, dependencies and robust supplier decisions.
Your brief
Your remit is leadership and professional development of strategic procurement within the agreed scope. You prioritise categories and sourcing events, develop supplier options and support demanding negotiations. With engineering and project management, you bring sourcing questions into planning early. New strategies should show up in actual awards and ways of working.
Your responsibilities
- Align category strategies and sourcing priorities with the current business situation.
- Assess supplier portfolios, market options and risks with the team.
- Lead strategic sourcing events and negotiations within the agreed scope.
- Develop strategic procurement methods and capabilities.
- Document strategies, decision logic and ongoing projects for the continuing organisation.
- Consolidate recurring project requirements and assess where framework agreements or alternative sources make commercial sense.
Your experience
- Strategic procurement leadership experience involving complex categories or supplier portfolios.
- Experience independently managing demanding tenders and negotiations.
- Ability to understand new supply markets quickly and lead teams with clear direction.
- Business-fluent German and English.
Your scope of responsibility
You work within an explicitly agreed mandate. Leadership scope, budget responsibility and decision authority are defined in the briefing. The title alone does not grant unrestricted powers. What matters is taking ownership, making decisions transparent and involving the appropriate stakeholders promptly when priorities conflict.
What should remain after your assignment
The continuing organisation receives prioritised category strategies, well-supported award decisions and a clear picture of strategic supplier actions. You document the assumptions behind decisions and equip the team with useful methods. Progress should remain valuable even as individual project requirements change after the assignment.
