The assignment and starting situation

A medical technology company in Baden-Württemberg is seeking an Interim Head of Supply Chain to stabilise planning and coordination processes. You connect demand, procurement, production and logistics, making constraints visible early. The focus is dependable operational planning: which data supports a decision, where information is missing and which trade-offs require joint action. You bring accountable colleagues together around a coordinated approach.

Your brief

Your remit is reliable management of the agreed supply chain processes. You assess planning assumptions, inventory and delivery commitments, establishing a clear cadence for decisions and escalation. System data and operational knowledge are brought together. The aim is not a particular software solution, but planning with transparent assumptions and outputs that are used in practice.

Your responsibilities

  • Assess planning processes and interfaces between demand, procurement, production and logistics.
  • Translate inventory and delivery data into specific priorities.
  • Improve collaboration and escalation paths across functions.
  • Lead actions to stabilise and develop supply chain performance.
  • Document metrics, decisions and outstanding work for a sound handover.
  • Review relevant planning parameters and data gaps with stakeholders and agree a practical way to manage uncertain information.

Your experience

  • Leadership experience in supply chain management or integrated planning.
  • Confidence in inventory management, capacity planning and relevant ERP processes.
  • Experience managing constraints and aligning procurement, production and sales.
  • Business-fluent German and English.

Your scope of responsibility

You work within an explicitly agreed mandate. Leadership scope, budget responsibility and decision authority are defined in the briefing. The title alone does not grant unrestricted powers. What matters is taking ownership, making decisions transparent and involving the appropriate stakeholders promptly when priorities conflict.

What should remain after your assignment

The organisation should gain a clear view of constraints, inventory and available options. Responsibilities, measures and ongoing actions are transferred to the continuing team. Progress needs to show in decision quality and collaboration: an additional report alone does not establish better management.
